What inspires you to post on your blog?

The satisfaction inspires me, I feel good everytime I find something new. I just want to share it with the world.

What was your best find(s) at a thrift store (or any other store)?

I would say my best find was...hmmm...how can one decide. Honestly, I know it sounds cliche but I would have to say all the things I get from "the thrift" are equally fabulous. But, I love my dresses that I get with the puffy dramatic sleeves.

How has blogging changed your perspective on the outside world of fashion?

I think Blogging forces me to be more up to date on whats going on in the "fashion World" I honestly have learned alot about Fashion from Blogging...its more than looking good.

Who are some of your favorite fashion bloggers ?

I would say the fashion Blogs that I visit the most are Fashiontoast.com and www.theglamourai.com and both of their styles are different but I love both equally I think that you should not be rapped into one "style", you should constantly be trying new things and have fresh ideas.
If you could describe your fashion blog in one word, what would it be?

I would describe my Blog in one word with the word eccentric because it is unusual and away from the norm and I think thats what keeps it fresh and exciting.

Blogger of the Week:

Mia Taylor Head Blogger of

Check out her blog here: Diary of a Fatshionista

After cruising on Gabi's Young, Fat & Fabulous fashion blog last summer, I came across a fashionable diva hailing from my hometown of Charlotte, NC. Amazed with her endless collection of wonderful leather jackets, thrifted blazers, and amazing dress collections, I wanted to know more about Mia. This diva has inspired me to embrace my curves and to ignore the standards society has created for plus size women. I am so happy to finally have her as one of the bloggers of the week! She is such an amazing woman! With the fine mixture of classy, chic style, Mia is taking the fashion blog world by storm.

What inspires you to post on your blog?

I love to share with my readers what I wear on a day-to-day basis. Whether it’s in a classroom or club setting. I want to show them they don’t have to be afraid to wear stylish items just because of their size. I just want to be someone they can look at and say “hey I can do this too!”

Do you thrift often if so, where and how often?

I used to go thrifting atleast twice a week. Now, I don’t frequent that much because of my busy schedule. The main thing I look for in thrift stores are blazers. I found an amazing one for less than $2 at Carolina Thrift in Greensboro for my Los Angeles vacation. I love Carolina Thrift in Greensboro and the Goodwill in Winston-Salem.

What was your best find(s) at a thrift store (or any other store)?

My best thrift store find are my selection of clutches. I was obsessed with envelope clutches and still am. When I go thrifiting, the first section I go to is the handbags. I get so excited finding a new clutch. I found a vintage Dooney and Bourke bag a few years ago and gave it to my friend for her birthday. She was really excited because she wanted a vintage Dooney.

How has blogging changed your perspective on the outside world of fashion?

When I first began blogging, I wasn’t focused on plus size fashion. It was just my love of fashion in general, especially designers and things I like. After Gabi from Young, Fat, and Fabulous featured me on her blog, so many of her followers visited my blog! Then a little light came on inside my head and I realized I should blog about plus size fashion since I am a plus size girl. Last year, I created Diary of a Fatshionista and here I am today. I still have the same love of fashion regardless of size. I love watching Alexander Wang and Chanel fashion shows online. I just know that I won’t be able to fit those items. I have to take what I see from the runway and make it my own.

Who are some of your favorite fashion bloggers?

What are your current plans as a fashion blogger?

Blogging is the new wave of journalism. Being a print journalism major, I am pursuing a career in fashion journalism. I want to incorporate my blog in whatever I do. In the next 15 years, my name is going to be in a major magazine’s masthead.

Cleavland Designer on the Come-Up

Hello Loves!

Twitter has introduced me to the most amazing and dope people in the fashion industry! It has truly been a blessing to have so many dope people in my corner! Trust me, though it is a competitive industry, young designers and fashion bloggers on the come up stay close and network. Well,me and Kris Hilton have managed to do so. This young and fabulous designer from Cleavland, Ohio, has showed me much love on twitter and much love was given back! I am so excited to introduce Kris from "LiveWild" Fashion:

The Rundown:

Name: Kris Wheeler
Alias: Kris Hilton
Age: 18
Hometown: Euclid, OH
Occupation: Designer/Stylist/Model

Bio: My Names Kris Wheeler But I Go By Kris Hilton. I'm A Fashionista. I've Always Loved Fashion But Just Recently Got Involved In The Industry Sometime Last Year. Last Year I Decided To Start My Own Line Of Accessories & Eye Wear, Which Is Currently Still In The Process Of Being Launched In Cleveland. From There, A Lot Of Doors Opened For Me, Such As Modeling, Styling, Etc. Thus, Leaving My Mark In The Fashion Industry.

("LiveWild" Eye Wear)

Who inspires you to design? Who are your biggest inspirations in fashion?

Coco & Breezy And Stevie Boi Inspire Me With My Eye Wear Designs. In Regards Of Garments And Accessories, I Get Inspiration From Gareth Pugh, Viktor & Rolf, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Robot & Brucling, And John Galiano.

What is "LiveWild" Fashions?

It's Like An Alternative Lifestyle. A Way To Live A Wild Life, But By Expressing It Through Fashion. Everything I Do Is Made By Hand!

How has working in the fashion industry changed your perspective on the outside world of fashion?

Being Involved In The Fashion Industry Has Allowed Me To Get The "Inside" On Everything, And I'm That I'm Active In The Industry Things That Were Like "Amazing" To Me Aren't As Amazing Now That I'm Working Hands On With It. Ex: Fashion Shows. I Used To LOVE Fashions Shows. Watched 'Em Everyday. Now I've Been In Numerous Fashion Shows, So It's Not That "Amazing" Anymore But It's Def. Still Fun! Also, Now That I'm Working In The Industry I've Gained So Much More Knowledge Than I Had Before So People Take Me More Serious Now That I Know What I'm Talking About.

What do you like about being a stylist?

I Like Sharing My Visions With Others. I Love That Thrill Of Seeing Someone Walk Down The Runway Or Walk Down The Street In Something That You've Picked Out. It's Literally Bringing Dreams To Reality!

If you could describe your style, what would you say?

My Style Is Def. Eye Catching. You Can't Help But To Stare. I Get Stares And Compliments ANYWHERE I Go. I Think It's Because Nowadays You Rarely See Guys Who Actually Get DRESSED From Head To Toe,,Accessories And All. So To Run Into A Person Who Obviously Takes Time And Thought Into Getting Dressed, You Can't Help But To Acknowledge Their Presence With A Stare! Also, I Try Out So Many Different Styles, Very Diverse When It Comes Down To Fashion. There's Nothing Wrong With Taking A Risk!

What words of wisdom or advice would you give to upcoming designers and stylists?

This Is Such A Hard Industry To Get Involved In So You Have To Be Serious About What You're Doing. Don't Do It For The Money Or The Fame, Do It Because It's Your Passion. Learn To Accept Criticism And Rejection, Especially From The Public. People Are Going To Stare At You, People Are Going To Talk About You, So Why Not Give Them Something To Talk About Or Stare At? Design Something For The World To Be Amazed By. And Rememeber, Go Hard Or Go Home.

Accessory DIY

Hello Loves,

Feather Earrings are all the rage this summer! I've already jumped on the bandwagon and have been going stir crazy with the featherette trend. Like any trend, it is so important to rock it in your, own original way!

So far I have purchased a pair from Charlotte Russe and another from Forever21. But earlier this week I found a Dream Catcher for $1 from GoodWill and decided to put my creativity to the test and make some earrings out of them! I think it is safe to say that it was an utter success.

Blogger of the Week:

Check her out like right now: Nadia Aboulhosn

I was introduced to Nadia's blog over a month ago, and I have read almost every post from beginning to end. Since that very day,I wanted to get in contact with her and feature her on CRB. After tweeting her, within the next ten minutes she responded and was excited about the feature. I am so excited to introduce the amazing Nadia!

1. What inspires you to post on your blog?

I get inspiration from almost anything and anyone. Bold statements are what inspires me most. I like things that catch attention and stand out from the rest. I try to do the same through my fashion. I want to inspire my followers as much as I'm get inspired.

2. Do you thrift often if so, where and how often?

I thrift shop all the time! I am super obsessed to the point where every chance I get I'm thrifting. Goodwill, Salvation Army, any resale store will do. I rarely shop in malls. I love thrift stores because it's more of a challenge for me to construct an ensemble. Plus, it has less trendy clothes which can make anyone stand out from the rest.

3. What was your best find(s) at a thrift store (or any other store)?
My favorite and best thrift store find is a 1950s black sequin dress. I have yet to do a post on it but it's coming soon!

4. Where are you located?

I am currently located in Orlando, Florida but relocating soon to New York for fashion school.

5. How has blogging changed your perspective on the outside world of fashion?

Blogging has changed my perspective in many ways. It has changed my perspective on even myself. What I have noticed most about fashion blogging is many people dress similar. Fashion AND blogging are both ways for me to express myself, and I wouldn't genuinly be expressing myself if I was doing what everyone else was. Blogging has really made me find my OWN fashion sense.

6. Who are some of your favorite fashion bloggers?

My favorite fashion bloggers are Karla Deras from http://karlascloset.blogspot.com/ and Olivia Lopez from http://www.fashionsalade.com/lusttforlife. They are both very inspiring.

8. If you could describe your fashion blog in one word, what would it be?
One word to describe my fashion blog is very hard, but if I had to choose it would have to be bold.

High School Confessions

Hello Loves,

I want you all to meet the wonderful Lisa Michelle of Charlotte, NC. This fashion diva in the making defines her style by wearing black combat boots, high shouldered blazers, and bold prints! Please step into the world of this high school senior who has dreams of becoming a fashion great in the industry! Check her out!

1. Where do you draw your inspirations from?

Everywhere! From magazines, movies, posters; pretty much whatever gives me a new idea. I like to dress in different styles and some how come up with my own. I learned that if you stick to one "style" then you can only look but so good!

2.What magazines (mainstream and underground) do you read?

VOGUE definitely. The usual ELLE, and TEENVOGUE. I also like to read NYLON and online magazines that are less popular like Patent Magazine, they catch the fads and info that mainstream magazines sometimes miss.

3. Where is your favorite place to thrift?

Platos Closet! Then Goodwill, Community Thrift Store and Value Village. Sometimes independent boutiques because I know for sure NO ONE else will have what I have by a long shot.

4.Do many of your friends thrift, do you go together?

Yeah, some of them do. I think its becoming more popular to shop at thrift stores. People are starting to realize that they are paying a lot of money just to dress in clothes that some airhead put their name on.

5. What is one of your favorite thrifted items that you have purchased to date?

I lovvvvvve my pink striped blazer!! I originally bought it as a white and red striped blazer but I took some pink dye from wal-mart, took some sequin material and sewed lightening bolts on it and made it into a pink blazer with a black sequin shoulder design! I love it!

(Model on the Left has on the blazer Lisa mentions)

6. What advice would you give to other high school girls who think that sticking to label names like Polo and Coach is the way to go?

Find a style that's YOURS. Shopping strictly at places like Forever 21 or Polo is ridiculous. I think its fine to get two items or so from a place and create an outfit that resembles who you are, but to dressed down from head to toe in namebrand clothing is not having style, its being a posterchild for that brand. You'd be better off being bare naked than wearing clothes that speaks for someone else and their style, or following after everyone else and the new fad. As my idol Gabrielle Chanel once said, "Fashion fades, only STYLE remains the same."

Artist Profile: You May Enter

Hello Loves,

I would love to present to you a new blog segment about underground hip-hop artists with dope swagg like my girl Makeda from high school! Full of style that cannot be placed in a box, you will definitely have to read her thoughts on fashion, music, and love with the release of her new mixtape called "You May Enter." Listeners get a sneak peek into the mind of a young college woman singing her life story into each track of her mixtape. Download it now my loves!!! (YOU MAY ENTER)

Artist Run Down:

Name: Makeda Iroquois Johnson
Alias:Thee Red Fox
Age: 20 years young
Birthplace: Hempstead, NY
Hometown: Charlotte, NC

1. Your mixtape shows that you are both a song tress and MC, who are your musical inspirations?

TheeRedFOX: I guess I can say that I do Identify with being a "songtress" if you will, but however, while I'm flattered, I can't take credit for being an MC. I may barely take credit for the title of a poet; however, I feel that being an MC is more than just being able to say some words to a "boom bap." If I were talented enough to be able to kick a flow off the top of my head for hours and hours with no hesitation, non stop, then I may call myself an MC but thats just my opinion. From a lyrical stand point I do take my inspiration from great MC's such as Nas, Black moon, Heltah Skeltah, MF Doom, Mobb Deep and most 90's era lyricists just to name a few. I especially identify with 90's artist because I was raised around that atmosphere and I'm a product of that era. As far as musical inspiration of course Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and Sade I'd say would have to be the most prominent role models that I take from. I have always been very cultured in music growing up so my taste in music ranges from hip hop, jazz, r&b, salsa, soca, reggae, south african, west african, rock, trip hop, techno, just all over the place.

2. "BRL" is one of my favorite songs on your mixtape, what does the title stand for? What is the story behind this song and your music in general?

TRFOXX: A lot of people seem to like "BRL," I think because its one of the most relatable on the tape. It's a play off what it feels like to “indulge.” Simultaneously rejecting the need to partake because there is something greater (such as love) which levitates the senses. Not needing “kush, coke, x, or mushrooms”…you’re already high as f*ck. (chorus from “Up” OFWGKTA Cover). The title is an acronym for which I don't feel the need to explain. If you know me and you're smart you may be able to decipher the meaning. For those who don't, just enjoy the music. I feel like music should be appealing whether people understand the meaning or not. Subtlety is a major concept that I make use of, and I put things in the content of what I write for people (who can) to pick up on, and for those who don't, those subtleties can just ride over them with the music without drowning them. Thats how I try to make my music.

3. How long was your mixtape in the making? What was the writing and beat producing process?

TRFOXX: I actually started writing "On & On" around fall 09 and couldn't finish it until like, December when I released it. I am such a procrastinator that I didn't discipline myself enough to put together an entire project until about a year after that. It takes a lot for me to become motivated especially when writing. Choosing a track or "beat" to work on is nothing though. I am lucky to have local artist like Jopedo/Brian Sambula (produced "Let the Weeds Grow" and "Beloved") and other producers who work with me free of charge. I also have an entire playlist of beats and instrumentals that I want to write to and it keeps growing, but I'm so lazy that I can rarely make myself sit down and create to them. I often hear "oldies" and get inspired by one part in the song, so I end up creating an instrumental out of that one part. Garageband for mac was the best thing that ever happened to me. I actually created instrumentals for "people," "metronome," and "BRL." Because I couldn't find instrumentals for those songs, I downloaded the original songs, chopped them up on garageband, and pieced the "vocal free" portions of the songs to create an entire instrumental and that is how I usually create many of my songs. This is the closest I've come to producing/beat making as I've gotten but I would like to experiment more with that in the future.

4. Do you plan on doing a collaboration with anyone soon, are there anymore projects in the making?
I am often approached by local/up coming producers and artist for collaboration and I'm always down for the cause. There are a few collabs pending but nothing set in stone as of yet. As far as any other projects of my own, I don't know I guess we will just have to see =)

5. Where do you like to shop? Who inspires your look?
This fashion thing is pretty new to me. I grew up as a tomboy so being a "girl" is a pretty recent endeavor, but I feel like it was a matter of time before I got into it. I'm not too materialistic but fashion is an art, and I love art too much not to be into fashion. Even though I have become more feminine in my dress, my favorite style would be the "Boyfriend" or "tomboy" look, its when I'm most at home. I've always been into sneakers since I was young, every birthday at least one of my 5 brothers would say "you want some kicks? Lets go to the mall." (btw my brothers influence me in every aspect of life, fashion, music, lifestyle everything) I have an "ok" sneaker collection, not much but I'm proud of it haha. As far as attire, I just like "classy." A lot of people are really into the brands and piling all these colors on top all kinds of shit. Me, I feel like less is more sometimes. I want to be able to walk out in any era, or time period and be fly haha. I would like to always be timeless. I like shopping online, American Apparel, Urban Outfitters, some up coming brands you may have heard of are 34D Brand, Violette by Vashtie Kola (who is one of my fashion heros) and NAMEUS Clothing are pretty dope, and a few vintage stores/websites I come across here and there. Oh, and Goodwill is key people, I have no shame.

Blogger of the Week:

LAURA BRAY! :

Check her OUT: WRINKLE IN TIME VINTAGE

Since becoming a member of Independent Fashion Blogger, I have met alot of amazing bloggers with amazing style! One of the most intriguing has been Laura Bray from Australia! Boy, the wonders of the internet are nothing short than great! All the way from Australia, 18 year-old Laura blogs about the musings of a young woman traveling and dining around different cities and countries. Take a peek into the world of a young Independent Fashion Blogger:

1. What inspires you to post on your blog?
I've always loved fashion, and I've always had an interest in personal style and what other people wear. I also get inspired by light, sometimes I see how the sun falls on one particular spot around my house and I simply HAVE to take photos there

2. Do you thrift often if so, where and how often?
Do I thrift! Thats like asking if I breathe. Probably around 70% of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe come from charity or vintage stores. I also own an online vintage store so part of my job is wading through clothes bins! I live in a small rural town that has an overboard number of charity stores and I can't remember the last time I went there and didn't find something amazing!

3. What was your best find(s) at a thrift store (or any other store)?
Probably my collection of maxi skirts or cardigans. I always find the most fantastic outrageous cardigans at charity stores, and they're so good for winter because you can snuggle up in them. I've got about four different maxi skirts from vintage stores in all different colours, sometimes I honestly can't believe my luck when I walk into a vintage shop and there are beautiful clothes just waiting for you to take them home!

4. Where are you located?
I'm located in a small coastal town in the South Coast of Australia, but I'm hopefully soon relocating into Sydney.

5. How has blogging changed your perspective on the outside world of fashion?
I think blogging has changed my perspective about fashion in the way I no longer see it as such a closed door industry. Being a blogger opens up a lot of doors that would normally be closed to you. I've also got to chat and meet some really lovely people that without blogging I would have never met. I think blogs, personal style blogs like my own, have really changed that stereotype that fashion is an industry for the elite. Fashion has suddenly become much more accessible.

6. Who are some of your favorite fashion bloggers (send the links if you can)?
I really love Nicole Warne at Gary Pepper Vintage, not only is she a fellow Australian but she has such a gorgeous feminine style! http://garypeppervintage.blogspot.com
Also Dylana Suarez from Color Me Nana, she has this really wonderful way of mixing genres of clothing, and I just adore her wardrobe! http://http://colormenana.blogspot.com/
A couple of others are Ashley Ording at Fancy Fine, Fifi Lapin the world's most stylish rabbit, Friend In Fashion, McMarmalade and Magpie Girl

7. . If you could describe your fashion blog in one word, what would it be?
One word....thats a really hard one. Salubrious, it means healthy or not run down! I'd like to view my blog as a healthy one!

Laura is definitely someone you all should look out for:
